The PHENICX consortium is happy to have collaborated on a TV episode on 'the science behind conducting' of the Dutch popular science magazine 'De Kennis van Nu'.
In the episode, Álvaro Sarasúa will demonstrate his work on analysis of conductor movements in live experiments with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and also show an interactive demo in which gestures shape expressive articulation in music. Cynthia Liem will demonstrate how performers (and conductors) have own freedom in shaping their performances, and showcase her work on comparative orchestral performance analysis.
The episode (in Dutch) will be aired on January 21 2016, 19.25 h on NPO 2. After airing, the show will be viewable on-demand here.
Next to this, more information (in Dutch) can be found on a special website of De Kennis van Nu . Here, you can also find an interview with Cynthia Liem for the radio version of the magazine, held on December 4, 2015, in which she explains the research of her PhD thesis, including performance analysis and soundtrack suggestion for multimedia based on mass media conventions.
